DMR

I must admit I did put off buying a DMR radio at 1st but in April 2017 I took the plunge and brought myself a budget, low range TYT380 (non gps) to give it a try.  I can honestly say that I am hooked.  For the price of £109 (UK price) I have had more fun with using DMR than any other modes.

Be warned though it is not always easy to set up, but once you understand it you will be enjoying it every step of the way.  There are numerous Facebook groups to help you get to grips with every aspect of the radio and its features. DMR radios will need a codeplug, which is software that contains all the channel, repeaters and reflectors etc.  You will need to personalise your own or as in my case there was no shortage of fellow HAM's ready to help on the Facebook groups.

KD4Z TOOLS is an experimental firmware for the TYT380 and TYT390 that gives additional features.  It's a nice tool to have on your radio an is in constant development, but much better than the basic firmware that comes with the radio.
